Thoughts about my life

I want to share some thoughts about my life.

There is no motivation to this other than my wish to express how happy I am with the life I am leading. Death, of course, may strike at any moment. Before it does there are a few things I want to share with you. I want you to know that I left entirely content, without regrets, and knowing that in my life luck was always on my side.

First and foremost my thoughts go to Kerstin - my beautiful wife, my soulmate and love of my life - with whom I live happily since so many years. Winning you over was the lucky break of my life. We live together in harmony. We master the challenges of life together and without harm to our relationship. Your love and support gives me the strength I needed to pursue my career. You are a loving and caring mother to our sons, you always put your own needs behind those of your children. They could not have asked for a better mom just as I could have not asked for a better wife.

I am enourmously proud of my two sons, Tim and Ricco, whom I love more than words can express. Being your dad is a privilege and I treasure every day I can spend with you. I have complete confidence in your ability to master your lives. Should I leave early, then my only regret would be not witnessing a longer stretch of your ways through time. I know that you will always feel responsible for your mom and for one another.

To my parents thanks for your love. For laying the foundation to my life. For giving me the space necessary to develop self confidence and become who I am. For the heardache I made you endure at times - I know I was not an easy child.

For all the good times together I thank my true friends - no need to name names, you know who you are. Most of you are my friends from childhood on in Eislingen, share my passion for music, or know Kerstin and me from our years in Sindelfingen. You met us in southern France, or studied with me at Stuttgart University. Equally to my brothers, my brother in-law, my parents in-law and their families: know that I feel a deep bond with you. I was never one to actively stay in contact - other than my annual christmas letter - and so I thank you for your understanding, your loyalty, and for reconnecting the dots whenever we meet again. I enjoy every hour with you.

Where you bury my body or whether you do so at all is without consequence to me - and it should not be a concern to my family.

If you wish to remember me, think of the Totem Pole in Monument Valley. I had the opportunity to stand at the foot of this majestic rock formation several times and it has a special place in my heart. Then play my favorite music, such as Jethro Tull's "Elegy", Govi's "New Dawn", Nicholas Gunn's "She Walks in Beauty", Pink Floyd's "On The Turning Away", Kansas' "Hold On" and "What's On My Mind" and know that I would have much enjoyed sight, sound, and your company.
